When i was in first year, i had an amazing professor (Nick Mount ) do a lecture on street art and how street art and its dialogue is apart of the "literature for our time." This was a huge inspiration! During this lecture i learned about a street artist that was writing "i love you" all over the annex. This message is something I'd like to build upon, and is one reason I'd like to create a supportive queer dialogue around our city and no I'm not thinking about the rainbow triangle you see everywhere! ( which I'm not particularly fond of - seems more like a symbol of tolerance) Working with the inspiration of other street artists or intermingling our work with other street art will hopefully intersect queer-feminist voices with other communities. For instance, our installation put up in Little Italy, a very catholic community, was destroyed within hours -- this kind of violent, repressive reaction is something I'm really interested in. In the next pussy pirate installation I am hoping to create phrases and affirmations about the 'coming out' process and humanize the often conflicted conversations we want/do have with our heteronormative families in order to see the various reactions triggered by the surronding community.
