It is the end ( of term ) a little inspiration might help

Inspiration # 1 Patti Smith gets the national book award:

Patti Smith choked up as she accepted the National Book Award for her memoir Just Kids this evening. She recalled her days as a clerk in the Scribner’s bookstore in Manhattan:

“I dreamed of having a book of my own, of writing one that I could put on a shelf,” she said. “Please, no matter how we advance technologically, please don’t abandon the book. There is nothing in our material world more beautiful than the book.”

Inspiration # 2 Kerouac's 30 Writing Tips

These tips may or may not make sense to you, but that’s Kerouac,:

Scribbled secret notebooks, and wild typewritten pages, for yr own joy
Submissive to everything, open, listening
Try never get drunk outside yr own house
Be in love with yr life
Something that you feel will find its own form
Be crazy dumbsaint of the mind
Blow as deep as you want to blow
Write what you want bottomless from bottom of the mind
The unspeakable visions of the individual
No time for poetry but exactly what is
Visionary tics shivering in the chest
In tranced fixation dreaming upon object before you
Remove literary, grammatical and syntactical inhibition
Like Proust be an old teahead of time
Telling the true story of the world in interior monolog
The jewel center of interest is the eye within the eye
Write in recollection and amazement for yourself
Work from pithy middle eye out, swimming in language sea
Accept loss forever
Believe in the holy contour of life
Struggle to sketch the flow that already exists intact in mind
Don't think of words when you stop but to see picture better
Keep track of every day the date emblazoned in yr morning
No fear or shame in the dignity of yr experience, language & knowledge
Write for the world to read and see yr exact pictures of it
Bookmovie is the movie in words, the visual American form
In praise of Character in the Bleak inhuman Loneliness
Composing wild, undisciplined, pure, coming in from under, crazier the better
You're a Genius all the time
Writer-Director of Earthly movies Sponsored & Angeled in Heaven

i heart TAVI so much!
Gosh, i wish I had a role model like her when i was young.
here she is creating 'moodboards'! Seriously, how freakin cool is this kid?!

gold dust woman
Lately I've taken to creating real life moodboards out of the random junk I have on this table in my room. It bums me out that today is Black Friday because I'm not ready to let go of witchy vibes for fall but my high tolerance for the cold will be taken advantage of when it's at 10 degrees and I just want to wear ghost coats all the time.

This one is supposed to be a little cosmic and explorer-y and dusty. As always, it makes sense in my head.

Being queer has influenced my art, in that I view stripping as more than a simple form of entertainment. You know how lady queers like to theorize about things! I think about how radical an act it is to love your body as a woman. How being naked / vulnerable and sexual is the ultimate political act in a society that says working class women’s bodies are disposable and un-beautiful.

Wangechi Mutu, This You Call Civilization?

Wangechi Mutu’s work boldly explores the contradictions of female and cultural identity, drawing the viewer into conversations about beauty, consumerism, colonialism, race, and gender. Her representations of the human form are disturbing and transfixing, at once utterly complex and strikingly direct.

..."the love is unconditional, Even when the condition is critical, when the livin is miserable Your position is pivotal"

Dear Christmas time,

your rampant consumerism, and hyped-up nostalgia about love and family really is terrorizing me. my ideology of a holiday does not have to be based on more stuff, big families and over-zealous dinners, its based on the agency I possess and the possibility that exists within me.

So Christmas time, I'm refusing to partake in this overly nostalgic and capitalist holiday! screw you and your presents wrapped in ancient forest, screw you and your love, and fuck you and your privlidge! You make trying to get by without a home, without a dinner, and without a love that much harder.

"Work 'til we break our back and you hear the crack of the bone
To get by.. just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
We commute to computers
Spirits stay mute while you eagles spread rumors
We survivalists, turned to consumers
To get by.. just to get by
Just to get by, just to get by
Ask Him why some people got to live in a trailer, cuss like a sailor
I paint a picture with the pen like Norman Mailer
Me Abuela raised three daughters all by herself, with no help
I think about a struggle and I find the strength in myself" ...

Just recently I sent out a call to my facebook friends, feminists, activists, artsists, and film makers for research help on the general topic of masculinity in a state of terror. Although I only got one response I couldn't be more thrilled with what was shared. A local film maker, whom I know through a good friend was kind enough to share a video from some of his past work... aww i was literally quite stunned when the short video finished...Thank you Adam!

New Miranda July Photography!

Miranda July begins her Vice photo spread with these fine words:

Dear Julie,
Do you ever feel like an extra in your own life? It seems like I'm forever stuck in the background, watching other people say and do all the things I feel inside. One day I'm gonna surprise everyone with my talents. They will be laughing and crying and texting me so often that I will be annoyed.
Until then,

Sandy

These Womyn are amazing! I stumbled upon their patio performances in Parkdale earlier this summer, and then had the fabulous pleasure to see them play last thursday! Their live shows are truly a melding pot of magical-lyrical resistance!

They self identify themselves as: "a two human animal, some call electro experimental dub hop, exploring word, sound and image to create an intergenre multimedia art experience"

check out their blog! > http://abstractrandom3.wordpress.com/

Their playing this Friday Nov 13 at the Concorde in conjunction with this fabulous collective working to create solidarity within their movement > Flyer for their Show

Are You The Favorite Person of Anybody?

This video was written by the fabulous Miranda July, i have become enthralled, fascinated and enchanted by her work ...I just found this short and I LOVE it.
This is a question I've been stuck with since I was 17 when my best friend was killed. After her death I was in limbo, always searching, and assessing for that 'favorite person' and of course always hoping i'd become someone's favorite person. "Are you the favorite person of anybody" haunts me in a way, because I was, and sometimes continue a search for my new favorite person. - not to say i dont have some incredible and truly favorite people in my life (because i do!) - i guess I just know what its like to ask that question and search out for my favorite person. Maybe im still searching for my 17 year old friendship with my lost friend Beth, but then again i could be looking back at that time in my life with too much nostalgia.
