Just for fun- A Fairy Tale

"Jeanie, what are you doing to your hair?!"
"Well, Sally, the only reason I dyed my hair blond was to prove how women are treated better when they conform to hegemonic beauty ideals. Now I'm shaving my head, to see how people will treat the new me."
"You're too wild, Jeanie! What if they think you just went crazy, like Britney Spears?"
"That doesn't matter, Sally. Some people will never get it. But it's necessary, for me, for you, and for all women. It's all part of the research project I'm working on that I plan to present at this year's International Pussy Pirates Symposium."
"Wow Jeanie, you're different from any girl I know... in a good way."
"Thanks Sally. This might seem forward, but I was wondering if you'd like to- wait! There's the evil hegemonic entity, descended upon the earth in human form! We have to stop him!"
"Wha-"
"Quickly, hide!"

"HAHAHA! I love stealing from the poor and giving to, me! The rich!... AND I love drinking and driving. Hmm, which one of my mansions should I sleep in tonight...?"

"ATTTTTTTTAAAAACK!"

"Destroy the brain, Sally! That will stop him from spreading pro-war, classist sentiments!"
"Gosh Jeanie, this is fun! I feel empowered stopping injustice!"

"You... ahhhh..bitches! Diabolical... feminist.. BITCHES!"

"Sweet ambush! That was great, Jeanie. I feel a sense of self-worth that my breast implants and expensive clothes never gave me!"
"It IS great, Sally. But that's only a part of what being a feminist is all about. It's fun to destroy the evil Dr.Hegemonic Frankenstein when he appears in obvious forms, but the hard part is destroying the ignorance and suffering that his ideas cause. It's a lot bigger than you or me, and we need to get other women on our side. There's a lot of misconceptions about feminists and what we stand for, and we've got to fight that ignorance, too."
"Yah... sorry for saying that you're too pretty to be a feminist. I was relying on stereotypes I saw on popular sitcoms and in other media sources."
"Don't worry about it. Now, let's spread the word on how to really empower yourself- by fighting oppression!"
"Ohhh, I can't wait!"

"Hey Jeanie, what were you about to say, before we saw the evil entity?"
"Well.. we don't have to talk about that right now.. I mean the truth is.."
"Come on Jeanie, you know you can tell me anything... we're best friends!"
"Well, it's okay if you don't feel the same.. but after today I don't know if I can hide it any longer. I REALLY like you, Sally."
"Oh Jeanie! I feel the same for you! I wanted to tell you earlier, but I was always too scared of what my right-wing parents would say if I ever admitted that I hate my fiance, and I really like girls! Ha ha!"
"Ha ha!"

And they all lived happily ever after.

  1. That was fantastic! I love imagining Barbie saying things like: "I was relying on stereotypes I saw on popular sitcoms and in other media sources."

Also, I really like the little duck (chicken?) in the last photo.

And also, hello. I just started reading a couple of days ago and I'm already a fan.

  2. Thank you! It's very exciting to have a fan. We hope to have scores of them, aided by our intense viral urban marketing campaign.

I recommend that everyone take whatever dolls/action figures/ household items they have and create hilarious, subversive montages. It's good for the soul, and for humanity. And that, Megan, is what feminism is all about.

(Thanks for being our fan, we really appreciate it).

  5. Thanks guys! We are extremely excited, overjoyed, and confused to have at least three fans already. It really is nice to know that the message is getting to at least a few people.

Keep on rocking in the free world,
